Hoisin Sauce Glazed Salmon

Hoisin sauce glazed grilled salmon is a beautifully simple and delicious dish that also features honey, garlic, Chinese 5 spice and orange.

This recipe takes 5 minutes to prepare and just 10 minutes to cook; bolt on a 30-minute marinade time, and you have a simple and achievable midweek meal.

Chinese(ish) Glazed Salmon

I love me a bit of salmon in a simple glaze, I return to the idea over and over again in my kitchen, mainly because it is so easy, quick and delicious!

I've got examples that range from gochujang glazed salmon and honey and miso salmon, to a tremendous orange marmlade glazed salmon.

This recipe returns to those very simple ideas, and this time around I have created a glorious orange and hoisin sauce marinade for some skin on salmon fillets.

I choose to cook this under a fiercely hot grill, which gets all of the sugars beautifully caramelised, but leaves you with juicy, opaque and perfectly cooked salmon.

Setting aside the marinade time, this recipe takes around 15 minutes to cook and prepare.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use skinless salmon?

Yes, skinless salmon works fine in this recipe. You just have to be a little more careful when you are flipping it.

Do I have to marinate the salmon?

No, you can cook it pretty much straight away, but leaving it for a little does give it a little flavour and texture boost.

Can I cook this in the oven?

Yes, but the texture will be a little different as you don't have the same kind of direct heat. Cook it for 10-15 minutes (depending on how you like your salmon cooked) at 200°C or 390°F.

Can I cook this in an air fryer?

Again, yes. And again, the finsih on the glaze will not be the same as sliding it under the grill.

But you can cook this salmon in the air fryer for 8-12 minutes at 200°C or 390°F.

Can I cook this in advance?

I rarely advise cooking a fillet of fish and then reheating it, because it will always over cook and become wooly.

Serving Suggestions

I've served this simple hoisin sauce glazed salmon with my egg fried rice recipe in the images on this page.

But you could play with lots of different dishes. If you want veggies, then both my stir fried broccoli and asparagus stir fry would work wonderfully.

Noodles are also a great option; a plain chow mein would be fantastic, and my sweet and sour noodles would play fantastically with the sweet tones in the glaze.
